Uzumaki, a long manga made by horror expert and mangaka Junji Ito, is long story spiraling over the course of several books. The story is very interesting and has a lot of twists and turns that leave the reader wanting more, and inevitably ends the way you think it would with the way the story is set up. The characters, storyline, and artstyle are all cultimated perfectly in one of the best horror stories I've ever read, which is why I recommend it to you!

The Characters Are Amazing!

The characters of Uzumaki are all extremely unique and unlike the last. Every character provides a special charm to the story that cannot be replicated by anyone else, and it captures the insanity some of the characters experience within the story. It seems like everyone in the story has their own part to play, and even if they're "bad" characters, they're very well-written and keep you interested in what's going on with them. The main character, Kirie, isn't remarkable, but is still very well-written and likeable with how well she handles the terrifying situations she's in. Her contrast and connection with every other character within the story, especially her boyfriend, Shuichi, is always interesting and very nice to see.

The story of Uzumaki is a long, twisted tale of a curse that haunts a town. Citizens of the town start experiencing and witnessing weird occurences, mainly things based around a "spiral". Uzumaki is focused on the hynotization and inveitable insanity the characters go through while staying in this town where spirals rule the mind of nature and humans. Surprisingly, the terrible, horrifying things happening in the town only get worse and worse, which each chapter topping the last in how crazy it is. The characters do many things out of desperation, and it's very neat to see just how humanity can be pushed to its limits in a story where spirals rule the law of the land.
The Art

Junji Ito always does well with his stories, and usually succeeds in making them as detailed and as frightening as possible, but with Uzumaki, he stepped his game up quite a bit! Uzumaki's art is very beautiful, hypnotic, but also very capable of making anyone cringe out of discomfort. It's very easy to get sucked into the world of Uzumaki while you're reading it, but the art is so extremely gorgeous and it's possible that it'll keep you focused enough even if the story isn't your cup of tea! Uzumaki excels at true horror, capturing raw human emotion in its truest form, and it will forever be one of my favorite stories because of that.
